Tom Waits ~ Muriel

Vreemd hoor. Hoe kan ik als liefhebber van Tom Waits én drager van de naam Muriel nog nooit gehoord hebben van het nummer ‘Muriel’? Het staat op het album Foreign Affairs, een album dat uitkwam in 1977, 7 maanden na mijn geboorte.

Het was de Gentse stadsmonnik João die me erop wees dat hij ‘mijn naam’ kende van het lied van Tom Waits. Na mijn inspirerende ontmoeting met João in het park bij ondergaande zon, heb ik meteen gegoogled: “Tom Waits Muriel”. Luister (en lees) zelf hoe Tom wacht op Muriel en hoe mooi dit nummer past bij het afronden van dag en het begin van een nacht die niet eindigt…
